People-pleasing coaching · How to stop people-pleasing

You said yes again. Now you're quietly angry about it.

A relative asks a favour. A colleague pushes extra work on you. A friend needs you, again. Every time, "no" gets stuck in your throat and "of course" comes out. You're the one everyone calls, and you're exhausted, a little angry inside, and guilty for feeling that way.

सबको खुश रखने में खुद को भूल गए।

Learning how to stop people-pleasing doesn't make you selfish. It makes your "yes" mean something.

How do I stop people-pleasing?

To stop people-pleasing, pause before answering any request ("let me check and get back"). Decide based on your own priorities, and practise small, polite "no"s first. Expect some discomfort; it fades. Then look at the belief underneath, often that your worth depends on being useful. Coaching with Priyank Dadhich works on both, online across India or in Jaipur.

How to stop people-pleasing: a person reflecting during a one-on-one coaching session

People usually come to us when

  • Saying no brings heavy guilt
  • They agree to things and then feel frustrated
  • They want boundaries with family without creating conflict
  • Others' urgent requests replace their own priorities daily
  • They feel responsible for everyone's feelings

Why do I feel guilty saying no?

Because somewhere you learned that being loved or accepted depends on keeping others happy. In Indian families, where duty and "what will people say" run deep, this is very common. Guilt isn't proof you're doing wrong; often it's just the feeling of breaking an old rule. Coaching helps you write new ones.

How do I say no politely?

Use a short, warm line and don't over-explain: "Thank you for asking, but I can't take this on right now." Pause before you reply, and offer another option only if you truly want to.

How coaching helps

A ₹500, 30-minute first session. If you continue, around 7 sessions are usually recommended, with WhatsApp check-ins. They cover your beliefs about worth and approval, ready words to say no, and support while you try them.

If guilt or low self-worth comes with long periods of low mood or thoughts of self-harm, please see a psychologist, or call Tele-MANAS on 14416. See Life coach vs therapist.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop people-pleasing without hurting my family?

Say no to the request, not to the person: "I can't do this today, but I can help on Sunday." Start with small things and stay kind but firm. Priyank Dadhich helps you practise these lines and handle the guilt, online or in Jaipur, in Hindi or English.

How do I set boundaries with family?

Calmly and early. Boundaries are clear limits on what you will and won't do. Explain them without long reasons, and stay consistent. Coaching helps you plan these talks so they don't turn into fights.

Mana karna kaise seekhein?

Turant haan mat kahiye, sochne ka samay lijiye, aur chhoti cheezon se "na" kehna shuru kariye. Aap Hindi mein baat kar sakte hain.

Is people-pleasing linked to low self-worth?

Often, yes. When you feel your worth depends on being useful, saying no feels like risking love or respect. Working on self-worth makes saying no much easier. See Self-worth coaching.

What does people-pleasing coaching cost?

The first 30-minute session is ₹500. If you continue, most people take about 7 sessions at around ₹2,500 each (15 sessions about ₹2,200 each, 21+ about ₹2,000 each), with WhatsApp support in between. Many people feel clearer within 7–15 days, though it varies. The ₹500 first session is non-refundable.
